Use of WHS Signs & Symbols
The use WHS signs and symbols are very important in any workplace because they are designed as a hazard control and are usually found in the most easily seen places. For example, the walls, door, windows etc. WHS signs and symbols are a major factor in workplaces because:
- They inform and draw our attention to the hazard.
- Provide advice and instructions on how to avoid being injured from this hazard.
- Point where the nearest emergency exit is in the room.

This is an image of a Fire Exit sign. It would most likely be located on the doors or near it, just informing people that they should exit at this point whenever there is a fire. It also states 'keep clear', informing all workers to exit in an orderly fashion for not only there own safety, but everyone else around them's safety.

Here are more examples of WHS signs & symbols that you would most likely see in workplaces.
"WARNING. Toxic Hazard" - This sign is indicating workers that there are harmful chemicals nearby, likely toxic. For safety, caution must be given so that nothing bad will happen.
"DANGER. Electric Hazard" - This WHS sign indicates workers that there are hazards nearby in relation to electricity. Whether it be faulty wires or damaged electrical equipment (computers, printers, shredder etc.).
